Preparedness: Getting Started

If you’ve been paying attention to anything other than mainstream media, you may have heard about the terrorist attack many are expecting here in the U.S. between now and the end of February 2026. It’s not too late to start preparing, but the window is short.

The most important skill for most of the population, including first responders, is a basic understanding of first aid. Take a Stop the Bleed or Tactical Medicine (TacMed) course.

If you’re a first responder, make sure your home and vehicles are stocked with Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs) identical to the ones you carry on duty.

This is important because, under pressure, you’ll revert to your training. If you’ve trained with your agency IFAK, you’ll be better prepared to use your personal IFAK when the need arises off duty.

Here’s what my personal IFAK looks like.

Bags like this can be purchased on Amazon for around $45. You can pick up the relevant supplies at sites like North American Rescue and Refuge Medical.

Even if your city doesn’t get hit by an attack, odds are you’ll run into someone needing first aid… a car accident, workplace injury, or a child falling off their electric scooter. Building your personal IFAK is an easy way to get started, and will NOT go to waste.
